About
Yerdaulet Rakhmatulla is an international affairs practitioner from Kazakhstan. He works where policy meets the people it affects: communities living with the legacy of Soviet nuclear testing, villages near large energy projects, and young people entering debates on nuclear risk and emerging technologies.
He currently serves as Regional Advisor for Central Asia with the Nuclear Truth Project, an international NGO, acting as its liaison with affected communities and local stakeholders in Kazakhstan. In 2026 he worked as Social Expert and Community Liaison Officer on the 1 GW Mirny wind power project with battery storage in Zhambyl region. There he drafted environmental and social policies and procedures aligned with EBRD Performance Requirements and IFC Performance Standards, including the project’s grievance mechanism, and supported public hearings in five villages.
He co-led a community needs-based assessment of nuclear-affected communities in Kazakhstan, which produced the policy report From Nuclear Harm to Justice. The report was published by the Qazaq Nuclear Frontline Coalition (ASQAQ-QNFC), which he co-founded, with funding from the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). He has facilitated and managed multilingual forums and study tours with Peace Boat, ICAN, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and IPPNW, bringing together survivors, youth, diplomats and parliamentarians from Kazakhstan, Japan, the Pacific and Europe.
His policy work includes a youth statement delivered at the closing of the IAEA International Conference on Nuclear Security (ICONS 2024), a civil society statement on emerging technologies at the UN General Assembly First Committee in 2025, and research fellowships with the CTBTO youth programme and the University of Glasgow. He took part in the 2026 NPT Review Conference as a youth delegate.
He holds a BA in International Public Management from Ludovika University of Public Service in Budapest, where he studied as a Stipendium Hungaricum scholar. He works in Kazakh, Russian and English.
He is open to new roles and collaborations in nuclear policy, stakeholder engagement and international programmes. You can reach him by email or on LinkedIn.
